No Photography!

I was recently wandering in zaitunay bay with my DSLR camera. I was surprised when a security guy stopped me , telling me that it Is not allowed to take pictures inside the venue, I replied :what's the difference between a camera versus taking pictures with my Smartphone.
His response was, this is the rules
I had the same problem in ABC Achrafieh.... The Lebanese businesses were probably trying to protect their brands and their “VIP” clients..But to me this is ridiculous and  a huge marketing mistake

Here why:
  • Maybe 80% of Lebanese own a Smartphone
  • Technology has changed business and marketing
  • People who take pictures will definitely share it on different social media  channels like twitter, facebook and instagram or maybe blog about your business, this will definitely boost your online brand.
Imagine your waiter stopping you from "Instagraming" your delicious dessert!

Businesses in Lebanon should encourage and reward customers taking pictures of their shop/product instead of stopping them.

I also had a security guard tell me that I couldn't use my DSLR to take pictures of my kids next to the Christmas display at ABC Ashrafieh. I asked him what the difference was between my camera and the dozens around me taking pictures with their iPhones and smaller cameras and he just stared at me like I was stupid and told me my camera was mamnou3a. So ridiculous. If you are going to have a no picture policy, fine, but to choose the type of camera you will allow just makes no sense at all to me!

You're considering that security guards, or the people who make the "rules", are well informed and know what a DSLR is. They create rules because they seek power, it makes them feel powerful and in control. They have a need to ban something. Anything.
